●             Summary: Previously known as the National Numeracy Programme (NNP), NMCRP is a pedagogical overhaul that introduces "Structured Pedagogy" to the teaching of mathematics. It moves away from rote learning toward a consistent, sequenced instructional practice that ensures children master one concept before moving to the next. ● Goal: To improve learning outcomes in Mathematics by reforming the curriculum for Standards 1 to 4, ensuring a solid foundation that prevents high repetition and dropout rates in later years.

●             Achievements to Date:

○ Curriculum: Revised the national maths curriculum for lower primary.

○ Teacher Training: Over 65,000 teachers have been trained in the new pedagogy.

○ Materials: Distributed over 18.5 million learner workbooks and teacher guides to every child in Grades 1-4.

○ Impact: Research shows the average child under NMCRP learns about an extra half-year of maths compared to a typical school year in Malawi.
