Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Honourable Bright Msaka, SC, has challenged graduates of the Malawi School of Government (MSG) to translate the knowledge and skills acquired into tangible results that can contribute to national development.

Msaka said this during the fourth congregation of MSG, held under the theme From Learning to Leadership: Driving Organisational Excellence and National Development.

He said professionals graduating from MSG should be able to translate government policies into effective implementation, evidence into informed decisions, resources into tangible results and leadership into public value.

The Minister said MSG has a critical role to play in advancing Malawi’s long term development aspirations, as the country needs competent professionals, effective institutions and ethical leaders capable of turning national strategies into measurable results.

He challenged the institution to go beyond producing graduates and focus on developing transformational leaders who can solve complex problems, improve institutional systems and effectively use evidence and technology to enhance service delivery.

He further challenged MSG to measure its success not only by the number of graduates it produces, but also by the positive change those graduates bring to their institutions and the country.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the Malawi School of Government, Professor Lewis Dzimbiri said the institution is committed to building the capacity of both the public and private sectors, which play a critical role in providing services and producing goods in the country.

He said MSG’s goal is to produce graduates with relevant skills and competencies that can contribute to the country’s development aspirations citing that  Malawi’s ambition of becoming a self reliant, urbanised and industrialised nation by 2063 requires investment in well trained and competent human capital.

At least  559 graduates received certificates, diplomas and degrees during the congregation, including eight graduates from the University of Bolton.
